The „John III Sobieski – Polish national hero and winner of the Battle of Vienna . History. Memory. Heritage” conference will be held on 19-20 September in the PAS Scientific Center in Vienna and in the Austrian Academy of Sciences.
The International Hydrology Prize awarded by IAHS, with UNESCO and WMO, went this year to Professor Zbigniew Kondzewicz from the PAS Institute for the Agricultural and Forest Environment. The Dooge Medal is the highest disciplinary recognition for hydrologists and it is awarded for outstanding contributions to the Science of Hydrology.
The modern world relies on portable electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets, laptops, cameras or camcorders. Many of these devices are powered by lithium-ion batteries, which could be smaller, lighter, safer and more efficient if the liquid electrolytes they contain were replaced by solids. A promising candidate for a solid-state electrolyte is a new class of materials based on lithium compounds, presented by physicists from Switzerland and Poland.
