Institute of Theoretical and Applied Informatics, Polish Academy of Sciences is a research institute whose science activity concentrates in the area of Information Technology. The Institute is ranked among the best (rank A) research institutes in Poland in the area of information and communication technologies. The institute hosts several groups working in the diverse areas of computer science and information technologies, including machine learning, multimedia systems, computer vision, telecommunication and networking, and quantum computing. The Institute is  involved in training an advanced level technical and scientific staff and both initiates and participates in projects aimed at the development of the innovative commercial sector. The Institute takes part in the realization of Polish Academy of Sciences' mission of advancement promotion, integration and dissemination of Polish science and contributes to education and national culture. The Institute actively cooperates with industrial partners in the scope of R+D projects by delivering expertise related to the utilization of novel technologies in the industry and providing analysis of innovation potential of unique technologies.

Fields of activity

  • computer networks – novel methods of modeling, queuing models, simulation and analytical modeling, designing and performance analysis of IoT network protocols, minimization of energy consumption, localization in embedded devices;
  • multimedia systems and computer vision – storing and transmissions of multimedia information, e-learning systems and real-time embedded systems, hyperspectral imagining;
  • machine learning – deep learning in remote sensing, non-standard applications of machine learning, utilization of machine learning in medicine;
  • quantum computing – foundations of quantum commuting, quantum programming, simulation of quantum systems, quantum machine learning, statistical properties of quantum systems

Latest achievement:

IITiS PAN hosts project-oriented research groups, which provide young researchers with the opportunity to work on cutting edged research topics in the area of information and communication technologies. Research activities of the institute are focused on the realization of a research project funded by EU and Polish agencies. The institute has experience in coordinating European and national R&D projects, as well as collaborating with commercial partners and research institutions at the national and international level.
