The Polish Academy of Sciences established its Łódź Branch on December 16, 1977. The activity of the Branch encompasses Łódź and its region as well as new, small academic and research centers in Piotrków, Sieradz and Skierniewice. The major aim of the Branch is to integrate and promote scientific activities in Łódź, the largest academic center in the area, as well as to initiate undertakings crucial for the development of the region. The Branch Council, 7 commissions and the Academic Club active within the structure of the Branch organize meetings, lectures, and discussions. Characteristically, the commissions have either interdisciplinary (e.g. the Commission on Cooperation of Chemical, Biological, and Medical Sciences) or rather specific nature (e.g. the Commission on Biomedical Materials the Commission on the Textile Industry, or the Commission on Peace Research). The Łódź Branch affiliates the Tomasz Jakub Michalski Foundation and the Foundation of Radiation Studies.

The Lublin Branch was established on May 23, 1997. In accordance with its statute, the Lublin Branch helps to integrate the academic community of the region in cooperation with universities and research institutes in the two main scientific centers: Lublin and Puławy. It maintains a close relationship with the only PAN institute in this area: the Institute of Agrophysics in Lublin housing the EU Centre of Excellence in Agrophysics. Moreover, the Lublin Branch supports and carries out research crucial for the economy and culture in Poland, and the Lublin region in particular. The Branch also helps local authorities implement strategic innovation programs for the Lublin Voivodship, e.g. to establish a scientific-technological park or to protect the Polesie Biosphere Reserve.
The Branch operates in the Lublin and Podlasie Voivodships and it is the only Academy’s branch situated on the right bank of the Vistula river. Consequently, it considers cooperation with scientific centers in the neighboring countries - Ukraine, Belarus, Russia and Lithuania - to be particularly significant. The unit’s activity has won it recognition in the region.
There are fourteen scientific commissions operating within the structure of the Branch covering various disciplines investigated by the universities and institutes of the region: the humanities, technological sciences, medicine, economics and legal studies. The results of the commissions' work are published in the TEKA journals (presenting the files of each commission).
Once a year, the Lublin Branch issues an information bulletin presenting its activity, scientific research and events as well as biographies of distinguished scholars from the region. Furthermore, it publishes the quarterly Maintenance and Reliability. The Branch’s bilingual website is continuously updated and developed.
