The 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as COP26, is an annual meeting of states-parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). It is scheduled to be held in Glasgow, Scotland from October 31 to November 12, 2021.

Representatives of the world of science prepared a statement on science and innovation in support of climate action. The letter was initiated by the Chief Scientific Adviser to the UK Government. The signatories of the letter call on their researchers, industry leaders, policy makers and political leaders to work with communities to:

  • develop ambitious scientific evidence-based Long-Term Strategies which demonstrate efforts to keep the 1.5°C temperature goal alive,
  • increase international collaboration to accelerate research, development, demonstration and deployment of effective mitigation and adaptation solutions,
  • establish programs to strengthen global research and innovation capacity.
