Polish-Swiss research on COVID-19 New competition

It is organized by the National Science Center (NCN) in cooperation with the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF). Researchers may submit applications by May 26, 2020.

As part of the ALPHORN-COVID-19 competition, projects dedicated to innovative solutions to fight COVID-19 disease will be funded. There are two models of cooperation possible:

  • bilateral – project carried by teams from Poland and Switzerland,
  • tripartite – Polish-Swiss project with participation of teams from one of the following countries: Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Luxembourg, and South Tyrol.

The received funds can be used for the following purposes:

  • research staff salaries,
  • scholarships for students or doctoral students,
  • purchase of research equipment,
  • other expenditures necessary for the implementation of the project.

NCN will allocate a total of PLN 4 million for financing Polish teams. The SNSF, as a Lead Agency, will evaluate project proposals. The SNSF and NCN have agreed to take turns as the Lead Agency on a yearly basis.

Requirements and deadlines

Joint applications must be submitted by Swiss research teams via the mySNF platform. The deadline is 25 May 2020, 17.00.

Polish research teams, however, must submit national applications via the ZSUN/OSF platform until 26 May 2020, 16.00. In addition, joint applications (the same research plans as those sent to SNSF) must be attached.

In the case of tripartite cooperation, each research team must submit an additional application to the appropriate research funding institution in accordance with its requirements.
