2018 L’Oréal-UNESCO fellowships For Women in Science awarded

For the 18th time, L'Oréal-UNESCO awarded six Polish scientists carrying out research in the field of life sciences. Among the laureates are two researchers from the Polish Academy of Sciences.

Each year L’Oréal for Women in Science in partnership with the Polish Committee for UNESCO, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and the Polish Academy of Sciences award outstanding female scientists. The aim of the program is to promote gender balance, encourage young women to pursue career in science and accelerate their future advancement.

Three fellowships for post-doctoral students, two fellowships for doctoral students and one fellowship for a graduate student were awarded to the following individuals:

  • Joanna Gościańska, PhD, from the Faculty of Chemistry of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań
  • Paulina Kasperkiewicz-Wasilewska, PhD, from the Faculty of Chemistry of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology
  • Anna Muszewska, PhD, from the Institute of Biochemistry and Biophysics of the Polish Academy of Sciences
  • Beata Małachowska from the Medical University in Łódź
  • Anna Piotrowska-Murzyn from the Institute of Pharmacology of the Polish Academy of Sciences
  • Aleksandra Synowiec from the Faculty of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Biotechnology of the Jagiellonian University

The laureates of the Polish Edition of the L’Oréal-UNESCO program have the chance to win the International Rising Talents, which are chosen from among the doctoral and post-doctoral researchers who have received fellowships from the L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science’s national and regional programs. Three Polish women have been awarded the International Rising Talents by now: Bernadeta Szewczyk, PhD, Joanna Sułkowska, PhD, and Agnieszka Gajewicz, PhD.
