Space Research Centre’s contribution to InSight mission

NASA and European Space Agency are preparing for another great mission to explore the Red Planet as part of the InSight project. A space probe will carry out geophysical and seismological field studies on Mars. Its goal is to examine the nature of the planet’s nucleus, which will be helpful in preparing the ground for sending the first manned mission to Mars.

At the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Cracow, it has been shown that tracking the dependencies between co-authors, one can not only see the paths along which scientific ideas flow, but also reconstruct the structure of scientific cooperation and detect emerging communities.

The British Academy is providing academics based in any country overseas (and active at any career stage and in any discipline within the humanities and the social sciences) with the opportunity to be based at a UK higher education or other research institution of their choice for up to six months. Polish scientists closer to explaining the cause of Chopin’s death

The results of research conducted by Polish scientists on Chopin's heart and published recently in the American Journal of Medicine show that the composer was suffering from tuberculosis and the direct cause of his death was probably tuberculous pericarditis (Witt M, Szklener A, Kawecki J, Rużyłło W, Negrusz-Kawecka M, Jeleń M, Langfort R, Marchwica W, Dobosz T. New academic year for 16 scholars from 4 continents at PIASt

Alexander Rodrigues de Castro from Brazil, Edward Waysband and Naomi Mandel from Israel, Sinkwan Cheng from Hong Kong, Pascal Dubourg Glatigny from France, Darya Malyutina and Mikhail Khorkov from Russia, and many others, will run their projects in Poland as fellowship holders of the Polish Institute of Advanced Studies (PIASt). On 25 October the Institute officially celebrated the beginning of 2017-18 academic year.
