Structure Polish Academy of Sciences

On 6 April 2018 at the headquarters of the Sapienza University of Rome the President of the Polish Academy of Sciences Prof. Jerzy Duszyński awarded the Medal of the Polish Academy of Sciences to outstanding Italian psychopharmacologist Prof. Alberto Oliverio, in recognition of his exceptional merits to the development of science, both in Poland and worldwide, in particular for his understanding for the social role of science.

The Commemorative Medal for the 100th anniversary of the Nencki Institutefor special merits in aid of the development of the Institute has been awarded.

Prof. dr hab. Jerzy Duszynski, a head of the Laboratory of Bioenergetics and Biomembrane of the Nencki Institute, received Honorary Medal of Jan Evangelista Purkyne awarded by Czech Academy of Sciences for outstanding contribution to Biomedical Sciences.

On 22nd May this year on the anniversary of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences the Senate passed a resolution to honor the Nencki Institute PAS Medal "200 Years - From the Institute of Agronomy in Marymont to Warsaw University of Life Sciences". The medal was presented to the Director of the Nencki Institute prof. Adam Szewczyk during the ceremony crowning jubilee celebrations at the Royal Theatre in the Łazienki Park.

On 28 April, Prof. Jan Strelau was awarded honoris causa honorary doctorate by the SWPS University of Social Sciences and Humanities, at which he has worked for 15 years. It is another addition to a long list of distictions received by Prof. Strelau – a scientist devoted to research on temperament, member of the Polish Academy of Sciences, honorary Editor-in-Chief of Academia, the magazine of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

The Senate of Rzeszów University of Technology honoured professor Małgorzata Witko with honoris causa award in recognition of her remarkable scientific achievements and input into the catalytic process theoretical background development.

Two institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Institute of Animal Reproduction and Food Research PAS in Olsztyn and Institute of Genetics and Animal Breeding PAS in Jastrzębiec, are members of „Healthy animal – safe food” scientific consortium awarded a prestigious status of the National Leading Research Centre (pol. KNOW) in the field of veterinary sciences.

The Teofrast award is conferred to the best psychological books of Polish authors. The prize, under the honorary patronage of the President of the Polish Academy of Sciences, has been founded and is awarded by the editorial board of psychological magazine “Charaktery” and has earned both the recognition of the magazine readers and prestige in the academic community.

Krzysztof Matyjaszewski, professor at Carnegie Mellon University (Pittsburgh, USA), Centre of Molecular and Macromolecular Studies (Łódź) and Technical University of Łódź, has been awarded the Dreyfus Prize for the development of the process of atom transfer radical polymerisation (ATRP), which has proven to be the most important advance in polymer synthesis in half a century.
