The Nobel Prize in Physics 2017 "for decisive contributions to the LIGO detector and the observation of gravitational waves"

Rainer Weiss, Barry Barish and Kip Thorne of LIGO/VIRGO Collaboration were jointly awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics 2017. The three physicists based in United States received the prize for their decisive contributions to the LIGO detector and the observation of gravitational waves. POLGRAW group, a Polish team led by Prof. Andrzej Królak of PAS Institute of Mathematics, also participated in the discovery of gravitational waves.
