Description:
The Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IFiS PAN), established in 1956, is an academic institution recognized by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education as a leading scientific unit in Poland. The Institute’s primary objective is to carry out advanced research in philosophy, sociology and cognitive science fields. Apart from its research activity the Institute is engaged in education, publishing and popular outreach activities such as Science Festivals for the wider public. IFIS PAN’s graduate school (GSSR) has a long-term collaboration agreement with Lancaster University (UK) allowing the award of MA degrees in addition to Polish doctoral degrees.
IFiS PAN has 150 employees, among them 124 researchers.

Latest achievements:
IFiS PAN is involved in multiple international programmes and projects spanning a wide range of thematic areas in the social sciences and humanities, and including horizontal activities. There are currently over 60 research projects underway at IFiS PAN including an ERC Consolidator Grant, starting in 2020; the European Social Survey (rounds 9 and 10) and projects implemented within CONSIRT (Cross-National Studies: Interdisciplinary Research and Training Program).
Research facilities:
The IFiS PAN has its own Centre for Sociological Research (ORBS)/immense library/own publishing house/teaching opportunities/working space in the center of Warsaw.
