Several scientific organizations joined forces and set up an international group to advance Ukrainian science. It was possible thanks to a USD 3 million donation from the Breakthrough Prize Foundation. The task of the group will be to take specific actions to support both Ukrainian scientists and the entire scientific community. The goal will also be to rebuild the global science system in Ukraine.

The group's activities will be administered by the US National Academy of Sciences (NAS) and the Polish Academy of Sciences. The coordinating group includes representatives of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the All European Academies ALLEA, the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina , the Australian Academy of Sciences, the French Academy of Sciences, the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters, as well as the Royal Society in London.

Action steps for rebuilding Ukraine’s science, research and innovation

The group's initial efforts will focus on implementing the 10-point action plan launched in June this year. The plan was created as a result of arrangements made during a meeting organized by the Polish Academy of Sciences

The next step will be to provide a place where scientific organizations will be able to support Ukrainian scientists, share knowledge and best practices. The group will also identify areas that might benefit from additional collaboration, and identify areas of potential overlap or redundancy

"The world needs Ukrainian science, and Ukrainian science needs support," said Yuri Milner, founder of the Breakthrough Prize Foundation. "It is an honor to collaborate with such distinguished partners on this important and timely initiative."
