EMBO is an organization that brings together over 1,800 leading researchers that promote excellence in the life sciences in Europe and beyond. On June 8, the organization announced the names of 64 new members. This group includes Prof. Zofia Szweykowska-Kulińska.

Professor Szweykowska-Kulińska is a corresponding member of the Polish Academy of Sciences, a member of the Council of Provosts of the PAS Division II: Biological and Agricultural Sciences. She is the chair of the Scientific Council of the PAS Institute of Plant Genetics and the deputy chair of the PAS Committee on Molecular Biology of the Cell. She is associated with the PAS Branch in Poznań, the PAS Committee on Biotechnology and Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, where she currently teaches molecular biology and mechanisms of evolution.

EMBO members

The new EMBO members live in 21 countries. 55 of them are residents of EMBC (European Molecular Biology Conference) member states, the intergovernmental organization that finances EMBO programs and activities. The remaining 9 live in: Argentina, Australia, India, Japan and the USA.

EMBO members are involved in various activities including serving on EMBO Council, Committees and Advisory Editorial Boards. They also evaluate grant applications and mentor early-career researchers. As a group, they can influence the future development of natural sciences in Europe and beyond.

New members are nominated and elected by the remaining EMBO members – it is not possible to apply for membership. Elections are held every year. The newly elected members will be officially welcomed at the EMBO members' annual meeting in October 2021.

Exchange of scientific information

EMBO mission is to support talented researchers at all stages of their careers, initiate the exchange of scientific information and create a research environment in which researchers can achieve their best results. The organization helps young scientists to advance their research, promote their international reputations and ensure their mobility.
