PAS women researchers awarded with R&D grants

Seven female scientists from six institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences have received grants in the Small Grant Scheme competition of the National Center for Research and Development funded by the Norwegian Financial Mechanism. Their research will focus, among others, on new materials for orthopedic implants, the composition of bacteriophage to treat multi-drug resistant infections and the climate change impacts on arctic rivers.

The 2020 Small Grant Scheme provides support for research projects implemented by women specializing in tehnical sciences, the least feminized areas of science. The Commission granted funding to 27 women scientists for basic and industrial research as well as experimental development.

Small Grant Scheme went to female researchers from the following PAS institutes:

  • Institute of High Pressure Physics – „Buried periodic Arrays of NANOchannels for single-frequency nitride lasers” (BANANO),
  • Institute of Matallurgy and Materials Science – „Doping of metal oxides with particular emphasis on copper oxide, by spray coating method to reduce its resistivity for use in a thin-film heterojunction and perovskite solar cells” (DMOPV),
  • Institute of Geophysics – „Variability of arctic river thermal regimes in a changing climate” (VariaT),
  • Institute of Immunology and Experimental Therapy – „Study of the composition of a bacteriophage preparation specific to multi-drug resistant Acinetobacter baumannii clinical strains” (ACIPHAGE),
  • System Research Institute – „Bipolar disorder prediction with sensor-based semi-supervised learning” (BIPOLAR),
  • Institute of Matallurgy and Materials Science – „New generation material for application in bioabsorbable orthopedic implants” (BioAbsMat),
  • Institute of Fundamental Technological Research – „Preclinical study of the implant for reconstruction of the cruciate ligament with a substitute for bone regeneration” (BioLigaMed).

Project duration may not exceed two years.

337 project proposals were submitted for Small Grant Scheme Call 2020. The National Center for Research and Development acts as the operator of the "Applied Research" program implemented under the Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2014-2021.
