The 2020 ERC Consolidator Grants winners include the following researchers from Poland:

  • Dr. Justyna Olko from the University of Warsaw awarded for her project „Multilingual worlds – neglected histories. Uncovering their emergence, continuity and loss in past and present societies” (MULTILING-HIST);
  • Dr. Sebastian Glatt from the Jagellonian University awarded for the project „Deciphering the role of RNA modifications during ribosomal decoding and protein synthesis” (tRNAslation);
  • Dr. Piotr Faliszewski from the AGH University of Science and Technology awarded for the project „Pragmatics of Multiwinner Voting: Algorithms and Preference Data Analysis” (PRAGMA).

Eight scientists applying with Polish research units have been classified to the second stage of the ERC Consolidator competition this year. The PAS Department of Excellence in Science helps Polish researchers, who apply for ERC grants, by preparing candidates for interviews and organizing trial panels with ERC panelists from previous years and experts in a given field. All of this year's winners, at various stages of the competition, have been supported by the PAS Department of Excellence in Science.

“I am very grateful for the professional support I have received from the PAS Department of Excellence in Science, whose experts helped me to write a successful ERC application and prepare for the interview. I encourage other ERC applicants to use the Department's assistance, ” said Dr. Justyna Olko, receiving congratulations from the PAS team.

About ERC Consolidator Grants

ERC Consolidator Grants are addressed to experienced scientists (who have already shown research independence) with 7-12 years of experience since completion of PhD. Researchers applying for these grants should demonstrate significant scientific achievements adequate to the stage of their career and the field represented (e.g. important publications in international peer-reviewed journals, obtained patents or awards). Applications can be made in any field of research.

The only criterion in the grant award process is a scientific track record showing great promise and an excellent research proposal. Consolidator Grants may be awarded up to EUR 2 million for a period of 5 years.

The full list of projects awarded in the ERC Consolidator competition is available at ERC website.
