The YASAS initiative was born at the online meeting of Young Academies from all over Europe on 4-5 July 2020. The inclusion of young academies in the science advice structures on the European level was the main part of the meeting. After four months of intense debate in a working group, attended by the representatives of the Polish Young Academy, the YASAS was finally established. YASAS aims to join a European project to improve the scientific input to policy making under the future version of SAPEA (Science Advice for Policy by European Academies) program.

SAPEA is part of the European Commission’s Scientific Advice Mechanism funded from the EU’s Horizon 2020 program. Together with the Group of Chief Scientific Advisors, SAPEA provides independent scientific advice to European Commissioners and stimulates debate in Europe about the role of evidence in policy-making.
