Prof. Ewa Słaby elected the President of the European Mineralogical Union

Prof. Ewa Słaby, director of the PAS Institute of Geological Sciences, has been appointed the new President of the European Mineralogical Union (EMU). Professor Słaby is the first Polish scientist to hold this office. She has replaced Prof. Michael Carpenter from Cambridge University.

Ewa Słaby, professor of Earth sciences and geochemist-petrologist, has been the director of the Institute of Geological Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences since 2016. She specializes in modeling high-temperature processes – igneous, volcanic and hydrothermal on a macro and micro scale.

European Mineralogical Union

EMU is an international scientific organization, which brings together most of the European scientific societies dealing with mineralogy, petrology and geochemistry. Its objective is to foster cooperation between member organizations, to sponsor symposia at selected European scientific conferences and to support scientific meetings and workshops organized in Europe. Moreover, EMU organizes a series of training courses on mineralogy and related sciences.
