A new rapid coronavirus test

Researchers from thePAS Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry in Poznańhave developed a new rapidtest for SARS-CoV-2. It is the fourth generationof fast coronavirus test developed by PAS researchers. Thanks to the improvements, many laboratories will soon have the capacity to run much more tests per day than ever before. The test is already in production.

The MediPAN-2G + FAST COVID test, which is currently entering the market, is a modification of the third generation of the SARS-CoV-2 test. It is as sensitive as the previous one and detects two virus-specific genes in one sample. Additionally, new test is "faster" than its predecessor. The standard time taken to receive a RT-PCR test result has been reduced from two to one hour. Now, laboratories will be able to perform more tests than before.

The new test has received a positive opinion from the National Institute of Public Health  National Institute of Hygiene and CE-IVD certificatation.

Scientists from the PAS Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry in Poznań have been actively involved in research on the SARS-CoV-2 virus since March 2020. They have launched a "Viral Support Group", gathering over 40 researchers performing test on SARS-CoV-2 in 24/7 mode. All members of the grouphave been decorated with the Crosses of Merit – the highest civilian award in Poland– for their research activity during the pandemic.
