Nomination of Professor Jerzy Duszyński for the position of the Polish Academy of Sciences President

Ewa Kopacz, Prime Minister of Poland, signed  Professor Jerzy Duszyński’s nomination to be the President of the Polish Academy of Sciences during the meeting at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister on 9 April 2015. Professor Jerzy Duszyński was previously elected to this postion by the PAS General Assembly. The ceremony was attended by Lena Kolarska-Bobińska, Minister of Science and Higher Education, and Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska, Secretary of State at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister and government spokesperson.

Prof. Jerzy Duszyński, corresponding member of the Academy, is a leading Polish biochemist specialising in energy metabolism and molecular basis of mitochondrial diseases and neurodegenerative disorders. He is closely associated with the Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology PAS in Warsaw. In the years 2008-2009 he performed the function of the Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. In the years 2011-2014 he served as the Dean of the Division of Biological and Agricultural Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Prof. Jerzy Duszyński is a member of numerous international organisations and of editorial boards of leading scientific journals.
