A prestigious grant for PAS institute for research in the field of nutrigenomics

EUR 2.5 million from the EU ERA Chairs program will go to the PAS Institute of Animal Reproduction and Food Research (IARFR PAS) for creating a Center of Excellence in nutrigenomics. This is a field that allows you to understand the impact of nutrition on genetic predisposition to diet-related chronic diseases.

The WELCOME2 project will last 6 years. "It will allow us to increase the Institute’s recognition and attractiveness for excellent mobile researchers, and thus develop existing strategic partnerships with leading research centers in Europe and become a desirable member of international research consortia," says Prof. Mariusz K. Piskuła, director of the Institute and project coordinator.

The new research group will be led by a world-class leader and a science manager, selected in an open and fair competition. The key element of the project will also be the training of young researchers at the Interdisciplinary Doctoral School of Agricultural Sciences, conducted jointly by the PAS Institute of Agrophysics in Lublin and the National Veterinary Research Institute in Puławy. In addition, a special emphasis will be placed on making research results widely available so that everyone can access them.

About grants

The WELCOME2 project is funded by the ERA Chairs competition under the Horizon 2020 program, which supports research and innovation in the European Union. 20 winners have been selected in this edition, including two from Poland. In the history of the ERA Chairs program 7 projects were realized in Poland so far.

Let us just remind, that the IARFR PAS has previously implemented the WELCOME project funded by the Foundation for Polish Science. The goal was to better integrate research conducted by the Division of Food Sciences and the Division of Reproductive Biology with the European Research Area and regional development. WELCOME2 is another step in unlocking the scientific potential of the Institute and strengthening its brand.
