ENRIO Statement: Research integrity even more important for research during a pandemic

Research integrity remains crucial in the COVID-19 crisis, given the need for robust, evidence-based conclusions, according to the European Network of Research Integrity Offices (ENRIO).

The European Network that for the last 12 years enhances research integrity within Europe issued a statement concerning research integrity in times of COVID-19 pandemic. ENRIO members point out that the pressing need for answers to the weave of sickness sweeping the globe may result in bad research practices such as ignoring protocols, ethics and biosafety standards or cutting peer-review corners.

This, even temporary, drop in standards will have a detrimental effect on research, as it not only distort our knowledge of COVID-19 and delay our efforts to stop the pandemic but also it will undermine public trust in science. ENRIO ends its statement by calling the research community to respect the highest integrity standards in performing and reporting research.

We cordially invite you to get familiar with the full ENRIO statement.
