Success of Prof. DorotaGryko team

Research results on the use of vitamin B12 as a new eco-friendly catalyst in carrying out difficult chemical reactions have been publishedrecently in Journal of American Chemical Society. A team of scientists from the PAS Institute of Organic Chemistry in Warsaw, headed by Prof.DorotaGryko, has developed a unique method of using vitamin B12 as a catalyst for photocatalyzed radical C-C forming reactions

Possible applications

The project "Bio-inspired catalysis for sustainable light-induced processes", funded by the Foundation for Polish Science, aims to provide means to create methods for generating greener production of chemicals and degradation of organic compounds.

This method may be used for:
• developing innovative methods for the disposal of organic pollutants
• synthesizing valuable chemical compounds by using natural vitamin B12 as an efficient catalyst and light as the only source of energy

More information on the use of vitamin B12 derivatives on the Institute’swebsite and FNP.
