In the recent competition „Research and Innovation Staff Exchange (RISE), Call: H2020-MSCA-RISE-2016” the consortium composed of companies: “OROBOROS INSTRUMENTS GmbH”, “Mediagnost Gesellschaft für Forschung und Herstellung von Diagnostika GmbH”, “CETICS Healthcare Technologies GmbH” and “APDP – Diabetes Portugal” and scientific institutions: Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology; Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology in Coimbra; Italian National Research Council (CNR); Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Lisbon; Helmholtz Zentrum München - German Research Center for Enviromental Health; Institute of Biomedical Research of Barcelona; King’s College London; the University of Bari Medical School and University of Porto; has been awarded. The mtFOIE GRAS (Foie Gras being French for "fat liver") consortium proposes to address the pressing need for non-invasive, accurate, rapid assessment of NAFLD/NASH stages, before and after intervention, through the development of biomarkers and innovative tools to follow mitochondrial dysfunction, a central mediator of fatty liver disease pathogenesis.
