On 28 July 2016, PAS representatives participated in the 4th Europe Congress of the International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR) in Liège. Prof. Paweł Rowiński, Vice-President of the Polish Academy of Sciences, was elected Vice-Chair of the IAHR Europe Division Executive Committee for 2016–2017 term.

The International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR), founded in 1935, is a worldwide organization of engineers and water specialists working in fields related to the hydro-environmental sciences and their practical application. Its activities range from river and maritime hydraulics to water resources development and eco-hydraulics, through to ice engineering, hydro-informatics, and hydraulic machinery.

IAHR promotes research and its application, aiming at sustainable development and optimization of world water resources management and industrial flow processes. The organization accomplishes its goals by a wide variety of member activities including working groups, research agenda, congresses, specialty conferences, workshops and short courses, and publishing, as well as by involvement in international programmes such as UNESCO, WMO, IDNDR, GWP, and ICSU.

IAHR is divided into regional divisions working in Africa, Asia and the Pacific, Europe, Latin America, and Middle East. In addition to pursuing objectives mentioned above, the European Regional Division of IAHR supports research projects funded by the European Union. The new Chair of the IAHR Europe Division Executive Committee is Prof. Corrado Gisonni (2nd University of Naples).
